Course Overview – What to Expect in the 5-Day Program

Theory certificate (required for both levels)

*If you don’t have one yet, complete HKU’s “Implant Dentistry” (Coursera) — a respected, structured online program — and upload the certificate before attending IDIT.

Our intensive 5-day hands-on implant course (Monday–Friday, 9:00 to 18:00 daily) is designed to immerse you in live surgical training.

Each morning begins with patient case presentations and digital imaging (X-rays/CBCT) review, where instructors guide the group through treatment planning. You’ll work in small teams of two dentists per surgical chair, rotating roles as surgeon and assistant, with an expert instructor supervising every step..

Throughout the week you will perform a broad range of procedures under real clinical conditions: everything from single-tooth implant placements and routine extractions (with immediate implants or socket grafting) to more advanced bone grafting, ridge preservation, flap design, and suturing. For eligible participants, sinus lifts (lateral window technique) will also be performed.

This volume of live-patient work (about 30 implants per beginner or 7+ sinus lifts for advanced) in five days builds skill and confidence quickly.

Training takes place at the Universidad Odontológica Dominicana (UOD) dental clinic, a state-of-the-art facility in Santo Domingo.

The clinic has multiple surgical operatories, on-site CBCT and digital X-ray, and a full sterilization center – everything needed for modern implant practice. All biomaterials, implants, surgical instruments, scrubs and PPE are provided. University support staff assist in surgery and ensure strict biosecurity protocols, so you learn in a safe, controlled environment. Short lunch breaks (with included meals) give you time to recharge and discuss cases with peers before heading back to surgery.

By the end of the week you will have performed and assisted in dozens of real implant surgeries, solidifying skills in treatment planning, surgical technique, and postoperative care. The experience is intensive and immersive – you’ll emerge fully prepared to integrate implants into your own practice immediately.

IDIT is officially endorsed by the Universidad Odontológica Dominicana (UOD) – the world’s only university devoted exclusively to dentistry

Approved by the Ministry

This is the only implantology course in the Dominican Republic approved by the Ministry of Public Health, ensuring safety, legality, and top standards.

Upscaled Facilities

Training takes place entirely within Universidad Odontológica Dominicana’s clinics.

AGD-PACE Credits

The program provides 50 AGD-PACE CE credits — highly recognized across the U.S. and Canada.

Certificate Provided

Upon completion, graduates are awarded an official UOD Certificate of Completion, issued as part of the university’s accredited Implantology module within its postgraduate curriculum.

You must hold a basic implantology theory certificate before attending. This week guarantees 30 implant placements under mentor supervision.

Who it's for?

General dentists with little or no prior implant surgery experience who have basic implantology theory (for example, a fundamental implant course certification) and are comfortable with simple extractions and suturing. No previous implant cases are required.

In Level 1 you will:

  • Place at least 30 dental implants on live patients (and assist on an additional 30) over the 5 days, under one-on-one faculty supervision. This high volume ensures repetition and confidence.
  • Perform a variety of foundational implant procedures: single-tooth and multiple implant placements in good bone, extractions with immediate implant placement or socket grafting when appropriate, and basic guided bone regeneration (socket preservation and minor ridge grafts).
  • Practice surgical fundamentals: proper incision design, flap elevation, drilling protocols (achieving solid implant primary stability), and meticulous suturing for optimal healing.
  • Enhance your diagnostic skills by reviewing each case’s X-rays/CBCT before surgery and discussing the treatment plan with instructors and peers.
  • Observe and assist on any advanced cases happening in parallel (such as sinus lifts or full-arch placements) to broaden your understanding.

Skills gained

After Level 1 you will be able to independently plan and place implants in straightforward cases. You’ll master selecting implant sizes, drilling sequences, achieving optimal torque, and managing soft tissue closure. With over 60 implant placements/assists in one week, you’ll gain muscle memory and confidence far beyond what standard lectures offer. Graduates leave ready to add implants to their practice and many return later for Level 2.

Basic implantology theory certification is required, plus prior experience (typically 50 + implants placed or Level 1 graduate). This week guarantees 7 lateral sinus lifts with step-by-step mentorship.

Who it's for?

Experienced implant dentists or Level 1 graduates who want to master complex surgical cases. Participants must have substantial implant experience (typically 50+ implants placed) and be proficient with routine implant placements and basic grafts.

In Level 2 you will:

  • Perform at least 7 lateral-window sinus augmentations under expert guidance

  • Execute advanced bone grafting and GBR techniques for challenging cases (ridge split or expansion, horizontal GBR with membranes when indicated)

  • Treat complex cases such as full-arch rehabilitations when available

  • Manage intra-operative complications like membrane tears and flap closure.

Skills gained

Confidence in sinus augmentation, GBR, and complex implant placement in compromised bone.

All participants continue to work in surgeon/assistant pairs with high instructor oversight, ensuring safety and maximum learning even on tough cases.

Theory certificate (required for both levels)

If you don’t have one yet, complete HKU’s “Implant Dentistry” (Coursera) — a respected, structured online program — and upload the certificate before attending IDIT.

Training facilities

You will train in UOD’s modern dental clinic, a professional hospital-grade environment. The clinic has multiple surgical operatories reserved for our course, each equipped with up-to-date dental units, surgical instruments, and digital imaging systems (including a cone-beam CT scanner) for precise implant planning and case review. A dedicated sterilization center and support staff ensure all instruments are processed to strict standards. Because UOD serves many patients in the community, there’s a steady flow of real cases available (we always have standby patients ready to fill cancellations). Throughout the week you’ll be assisted by bilingual university staff who manage patient comfort and instrument needs, so you can focus entirely on the surgery.

Safety and comfort are top priorities. UOD follows rigorous biosecurity protocols (PPE, N95 masks for aerosol procedures, etc.) and the campus has secure, controlled access with round-the-clock security. The university clinic setting – surrounded by dental professionals and students – creates an immersive learning atmosphere: everything in the environment reinforces your focus on dentistry.
